When Ian was looking for a new set of wheels, he hadn't
quite decided what flavour to go for. At the time he was
a Ford man, and had his current car, a 2 litre zetec escort
running throttle bodies and a stand alone ECU featured in
Fast Ford. But Something told him it was time to change
brands, and browsing the net he discovered a tidy looking
Mazda RX7. A quick trip for a test drive had him drawn to
the beast. He knew this was the car for him. He was to become
a child of the rotary revolution!
Imported in 2000 from Japan, this limited edition RX7 'Type
R' came with 17" BBS alloys, front strut brace, rear
seats, and is also only one of a few of its year in the
gleaming red paint. Boasting 280bhp and 231lb/ft of torque
it reaches 60mph in around 5 seconds and has a top speed
of over 160! This comes courtesy of it's 1.3 litre 'Wankel'
engine. The rotary design of the engine is definitely a
product of thinking outside of the box, and uses a triangle
shaped 'Rotor' rather than the more common Piston.
